Fortnite returns to the Google Play Store! After a 5-year legal battle with Google, Epic Games brings the hit battle royale back to Android users in the US.

Epic Games has spent years embroiled in high-profile court cases ⚖️, but it appears the company’s litigious era may finally be winding down 📉. Today, the publisher announced 📢 that Fortnite is officially back on the Google Play Store in the US 🇺🇸. This return to Android 🤖 marks a significant milestone 🏁: after five years of antitrust arguments, Epic’s hit game is now available on virtually every platform 🌎.

The conflict began in 2020 ⚔️, when Epic sued both Google and Apple 🍎 over their mobile payment system policies. On the whole, the gaming giant has been successful in its challenges 🏆, most recently reaching a settlement 🤝 with Google in November. Both parties agreed to a modified version of an order from US District Judge James Donato 👨‍⚖️ regarding developer fees, the handling of in-app payments 💳, and third-party billing systems.

A similar saga unfolded earlier this year regarding Apple 🍏. US Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers sided with Epic in May, ordering the tech giant to stop collecting commissions 🚫 on purchases made outside its proprietary App Store 🛒. Following a brief period of negotiation 🗣️, Fortnite finally returned to iOS devices 📲 in the US a few weeks later.
