Google brings Deep Research to NotebookLM. Generate comprehensive multi-page reports by scouring hundreds of web sources with this powerful new AI update.
Nearly a year after debuting Deep Research in its AI chatbot 🤖, Google is integrating the feature into NotebookLM. Much like its counterpart in Gemini ✨, this tool empowers users to generate comprehensive reports on specific topics 📊. When you initiate a Deep Research task, the system scours hundreds of websites on your behalf to compile its analysis 🌐🧐.
While the process typically takes a few minutes ⏱️, the result is a substantial, multi-page report 📄. As the model operates in the background ⚙️, you have the option to direct it toward specific sources, though NotebookLM will also proactively recommend relevant articles, papers, and websites 📚. Once the research is compiled, you can leverage the platform’s existing tools to derive further insights from the material 💡.
Google is also expanding the range of compatible sources with this update 🔄. The app can now pull data directly from Google Sheets 📈, Microsoft Word documents, and PDFs stored in Google Drive ☁️; adding Drive files is now as simple as pasting a URL 🔗. Google states that these enhancements will roll out over the coming week 🗓️—a timely addition, considering the platform recently gained the ability to generate quizzes and flashcards 📝🃏.
