In an effort to deepen social engagement on the platform, Spotify is enhancing its messaging capabilities 🤝. The streaming giant is introducing a new feature that allows users to instantly view what their friends or family members are streaming while they chat 🎵✨.
When enabled, your current track appears prominently at the top of the conversation window 🔝. From there, your chat partner can tap the activity bar to listen along, save the song, or respond with a quick emoji reaction ❤️👏. Of course, this also opens the door for direct commentary—whether that means applauding a great discovery or teasing a questionable music choice 😂🎶.
The update also brings tighter integration with “Jam,” Spotify’s collaborative listening tool 🎸. Premium subscribers will now see a dedicated “Jam” button in the top right corner of the chat interface, allowing them to seamlessly invite a friend to build a shared queue and listen simultaneously 🕺💎. While Free tier users can join these sessions, the ability to initiate a Jam remains a Premium-only perk ✨.
It is important to note that these messaging upgrades are currently limited to one-on-one conversations; with no group chat functionality supported yet, you won’t be able to monitor multiple friends at once 👤🚫. The features are currently rolling out gradually to iOS and Android users, with broad availability expected over the coming weeks 🚀🍏🤖.
