Insta360 seems poised to shake up the compact vlogging market again , with emerging details suggesting a device that diverges from the formula established by DJI’s Osmo Pocket series.

Dubbed the Insta360 Luna in recent filings, the device has reportedly been acknowledged by CEO Liu Jingkang . At the company’s annual conference, he confirmed that a vlogging-focused camera is in development with a launch target before July 2026. Current estimates suggest a release window falling somewhere between March and June, though a concrete date remains under wraps.

The most intriguing aspect of the Luna is its rumored optical system. Rather than leaning on a single wide sensor that degrades quality when you zoom, the Luna is expected to sport two separate lenses: a standard wide-angle (1x) and a dedicated 3x optical telephoto module. If this pans out, creators could switch focal lengths without the resolution loss that typically plagues pocket gimbal cameras.

According to patent sketches and preliminary reports, handling that zoom transition might feel quite familiar. Users will likely control the lenses via a small joystick or gestures on a fold-out touchscreen —a design philosophy that mirrors the intuitive zoom switching found on modern smartphones rather than the fixed-lens limitations of traditional pocket cams.

Beyond the glass, there is chatter about a significant upgrade to the image pipeline. The Luna may employ a dual-stage processing system that enhances the image before final rendering. Ideally, this would translate to superior dynamic range and cleaner footage in low-light scenarios , though the real verdict will depend on the sensor size and final color tuning.

The timing is critical , as the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 currently dominates this niche. However, rumors are swirling that DJI is also prepping a dual-camera successor. If DJI releases its upgrade before Insta360’s launch window closes, we could be looking at a fierce head-to-head battle in the handheld gimbal market.
