Lexar is going big on vehicle storage. The company just expanded its JumpDrive A50V and C50V dashcam lineup, adding high-capacity 512GB and 1TB variants to the mix. It’s a move clearly aimed at the growing number of drivers who need reliable, long-term recording for security and surveillance. To put that capacity into perspective: the 1TB model can house roughly 96 hours of footage from a four-camera setup, like those found in Li Auto vehicles, before needing to loop.

Under the Hood: Specs and Reliability

The two models differ primarily in their physical connection. The A50V sticks with the traditional USB-A port, while the C50V adopts the increasingly standard USB-C. Both utilize USB 3.2 Gen 1 architecture, delivering consistent read and write speeds of up to 200MB/s.

Lexar didn’t just opt for standard consumer-grade memory here. These drives use high-quality TLC NAND flash, specifically chosen for its ability to survive the brutal, non-stop rewrite cycles that dashcams demand. Because these are designed for 24/7 loop recording, they are built to automatically overwrite the oldest files once the storage hits its limit—a critical feature for EV “Sentry Mode” and general vehicle security. While they ship preformatted in exFAT, they play nice with FAT32 or NTFS if your specific car requires a different setup.

 Built for the Elements

Car interiors are notoriously harsh environments, swinging from freezing nights to sweltering afternoons under the windshield. Lexar has engineered these drives to handle those extremes, rating them for operation between -40°C and 75°C. They can even survive storage temperatures of up to 100°C.

Physically, they’re quite discreet. The USB-C C50V weighs in at 13.5 grams with a footprint of 28.8 x 22.5 x 16.23 mm. Its USB-A sibling, the A50V, is even lighter at just 6.2 grams and slightly smaller overall.

 Compatibility and Pricing

Lexar notes that these drives have undergone extensive compatibility testing with various “new energy” vehicles (EVs). While most systems will recognize them immediately as plug-and-play devices, some car infotainment systems may require a quick format upon first insertion. Each unit comes with a one-year limited warranty and has passed Lexar’s internal automotive-grade reliability benchmarks.

For now, the new capacities are hitting the market in China. The 512GB model is priced at 779 yuan (approximately $112), while the 1TB flagship retails for 1,419 yuan (around $205).
