Acer and ASUS halt PC sales in Germany after court ruling ๐ป ๐ฉ๐ช โ๏ธ
Acer and ASUS halt PC sales in Germany after court ruling ๐ป ๐ฉ๐ช โ๏ธ
A court decision in Germany has temporarily blocked Acer and ASUS from selling certain PCs directly in the country, following a patent dispute with Nokia. ๐ ๐๏ธ
ASUS TUF Gaming A14 Laptop ๐ฎ ๐ป
The ruling comes from the Munich I Regional Court, which sided with Nokia in a case involving standard-essential patents (SEPs) tied to the H.265/HEVC video codec. ๐๏ธ HEVC is widely used for compressing high-resolution video, including 4K and 8K playback, and is built into modern processors and graphics systems. ๐ฝ๏ธ โ๏ธ
According to the court, Acer and ASUS were found to have infringed Nokiaโs patents without securing licenses on FRAND (fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory) terms. ๐ As a result, the court granted Nokia an injunction. That means the two PC makers cannot import, sell, or distribute affected devices directly in Germany, at least for now. ๐ซ ๐ฆ
Whatโs affected? โ โ ๏ธ
Because HEVC support is deeply integrated into current hardware and software stacks, the decision potentially covers most recent laptop and desktop models from both companies. ๐ป Acer has already removed PCs from its German online store, leaving only accessories such as monitors available. ๐ฅ๏ธ ASUS has similarly restricted parts of its German website, with some product pages offline or marked as unavailable. โ ๐
Both companies have said the move is tied to the temporary injunction. Theyโve also stressed that warranties, repairs, and customer service in Germany are continuing as normal. ๐ ๏ธ ๐ โ
The injunction applies to the manufacturers themselves, not to third-party retailers. ๐ฌ That means stores like Amazon, MediaMarkt, and other electronics chains can continue selling devices already in inventory. ๐ฆ ๐
However, once current stock runs out, replenishing it could become difficult unless the dispute is resolved or a licensing agreement is reached. ๐ โณ ๐ค
Nokia filed patent lawsuits in 2025 ๐
against Acer, ASUS, and Hisense over HEVC-related intellectual property. Hisense later reached a licensing agreement with Nokia, leading to the claims against it being withdrawn. โ๏ธ โ
Acer and ASUS have not settled so far and are expected to pursue appeals. Licensing negotiations may still be ongoing behind the scenes. โ๏ธ ๐ ๐ค

A recent court decision in Germany has forced Acer and ASUS to temporarily suspend direct sales of specific PCs within the country, the result of an ongoing patent dispute with Nokia. ๐ ๐๏ธ

The injunction stems from a ruling by the Munich I Regional Court, which sided with Nokia regarding standard-essential patents (SEPs) linked to the H.265/HEVC video codec. ๐๏ธ This technology is fundamental to modern media, enabling high-resolution compression for 4K and 8K playback, and is deeply integrated into contemporary processors and graphics systems. ๐ฝ๏ธ โ๏ธ
The court determined that both Acer and ASUS infringed on Nokiaโs intellectual property by failing to secure licenses under FRAND (fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory) terms. ๐ Consequently, the court granted Nokia an injunction, effectively barring the two PC manufacturers from directly importing, selling, or distributing the affected devices in Germany for the time being. ๐ซ ๐ฆ

Whatโs affected? โ โ ๏ธ
Because HEVC support is woven into the fabric of modern hardware and software stacks, the ruling casts a wide net, potentially impacting the vast majority of recent laptop and desktop models from both brands. ๐ป The commercial impact is already visible: Acer has removed PCs from its German online store, leaving only accessories like monitors available. ๐ฅ๏ธ ASUS has implemented similar restrictions on its German website, with various product pages either taken offline or marked as unavailable. โ ๐
Both companies have confirmed that these measures are a direct response to the temporary injunction. However, they have emphasized that operations regarding warranties, repairs, and customer service in Germany remain unaffected and will continue as normal. ๐ ๏ธ ๐ โ
It is important to note that the injunction applies specifically to the manufacturers, not to third-party retailers. ๐ฌ This means that vendors such as Amazon, MediaMarkt, and other electronics chains can continue to sell devices currently sitting in their inventory. ๐ฆ ๐
The challenge, however, will arise once that current stock is depleted. ๐ Replenishing inventory could prove difficultโif not impossibleโunless the dispute is resolved or a licensing agreement is reached. โณ ๐ค
Nokia originally filed these patent lawsuits in 2025 ๐
, targeting Acer, ASUS, and Hisense over HEVC-related intellectual property. While Hisense successfully negotiated a licensing agreement with Nokia, leading to the withdrawal of the claims against it, the PC makers have yet to settle. โ๏ธ โ๏ธ
Acer and ASUS have not reached an agreement thus far and are expected to appeal the decision ๐, though licensing negotiations likely continue behind closed doors. ๐ค ๐ค

MSI launches MEG Vision X2 AI+ desktop featuring a built-in holographic AI pet ๐ธ๐พ
Forget dedicated AI buttonsโMSI just built a holographic AI companion ๐ค directly into your next gaming PC ๐ฎ.
MSIโs newest gaming desktop, the MEG Vision X2 AI+ ๐ฅ๏ธ, takes the current industry trend of adding AI to everything and makes it literal. Instead of just relying on software features or a dedicated keyboard button โจ๏ธ, MSI has built a secondary display directly into the front of the PC case to house a virtual assistant ๐โโ๏ธ.
The company calls this cylindrical screen the AI Holostage โช. It serves as a physical home for LuckyClaw, an AI companion that runs locally on the machine. According to MSI, you can use natural voice ๐ฃ๏ธ or text commands ๐ฌ to ask LuckyClaw to adjust your systemโs performance profiles โก, change monitor settings ๐ฅ๏ธ, or swap out your RGB lighting colors ๐.
If you arenโt interested in using MSIโs default mascot, the software also supports custom third-party avatars ๐ญ. It is basically a voice-activated settings menu with a face ๐ค. MSI says the software will get updates over time to add more features ๐.

If you look past the built-in screen, the MEG Vision X2 AI+ is simply a very high-end gaming PC ๐. It can be configured with Intelโs Core Ultra processors ๐ง and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics card ๐พ. The system can reach up to 3400 TOPS of total AI performance ๐.
To keep the hardware cool, the desktop includes a 360mm liquid cooler โ๏ธ๐ง. The interior design relies on MSIโs Project Zero motherboard standard, which moves all the power connectors to the back of the board. This hides the cable clutter and keeps the inside of the case looking neat ๐งน behind the glass panel ๐ง.
The rest of the specifications include modern standards like PCIe 5.0 storage ๐พ, DDR5 memory, Wi-Fi 7 ๐ถ, 5G Ethernet, and Thunderbolt 5 support โก.
MSI has not announced a release date ๐ or pricing details yet ๐ธ.
In related news, MSI has recently launched a 425Hz 1440p gaming monitor ๐ฅ๏ธ that costs less than $330 ๐ต.

โจ Lenovo updates Legion Blade 7000K desktop with an i7-13650HX, RTX 5060 & 24GB of RAM
โ๏ธ Lenovo is rewriting the pre-built playbook with its new Legion Blade 7000K, a high-performance ๐งโโ๏ธ “Frankenstein” desktop that pairs a laptop-grade i7 processor with the ๐ฎ RTX 5060 and a bizarre ๐ง 24GB of RAM.
Lenovo has added a new configuration to its Legion Blade 7000K desktop PC lineup, combining an Intel Core i7-13650HX processor with an Nvidia RTX 5060 graphics card. โ๏ธ The system is currently available with a promotional launch price of ๐ฐ 9,999 yuan ($1,478), and will eventually shift to a standard retail price of ๐ท๏ธ 10,499 yuan ($1,552).

๐ Lenovo Legion Blade 7000K Specifications
๐ง The most interesting part of this build is the choice of processor. The Core i7-13650HX is actually a mobile chip designed for high-end laptops, though it is built on repurposed desktop silicon. ๐ฌ Lenovo has opted to use it here inside a standard desktop tower. It features a ๐ 14-core, 20-thread configuration, which is split into six performance cores and eight efficiency cores.
The chip also includes a 24MB Smart Cache and reaches a peak turbo frequency of โก 4.90 GHz. It operates at a 55W base power but can draw up to ๐ 157W when pushed to its maximum turbo consumption. Lenovo paired this processor with Nvidiaโs RTX 5060, a graphics card that handles standard 1080p and 1440p gaming, as well as basic video encoding and ๐ค AI tasks.
For memory, the system comes with ๐ 24GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5600MHz. That is an unusual amount for a pre-built PC, since they usually ship with either 16GB or 32GB. ๐งฉ It gives you a bit more room for multitasking than a standard 16GB setup without making the computer as expensive as a 32GB model. For storage, it includes a standard ๐๏ธ 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.
Lenovo Legion Blade 7000K desktop
๐๏ธ The case design is functional and sticks to the established look of the Legion brand. The chassis comes in a Titanium Crystal Gray finish and relies on a mesh front panel for intake ventilation. Behind this mesh, Lenovo included a textured airflow shroud, which the company refers to as its ๐ Night Sky design, to help direct air over the internal components. ๐ฌ๏ธ
Like most modern gaming desktops, the Blade 7000K includes customizable lighting. ๐ The front panel features an ARGB Legion logo, and the internal cooling fans are equipped with ๐ก 12-LED RGB rings. It also features a standard ๐ tempered glass side panel that allows users to see the internal hardware, while the primary I/O ports are situated on the top edge of the case.
๐๏ธ In related news, Lenovo recently unveiled the Lecoo Air 14, Intelโs first laptop based on the Project Firefly initiative, and also introduced the 2026 ThinkPad X13 powered by the ๐ Ryzen AI 7 445 with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory.
