Ugreen’s latest release isn’t just a lightning-fast 45W GaN charger ⚡

Published

on

Ditch ugly chargers! Ugreen's adorable new 45W GaN cat-shaped charger doubles as cute desk decor. Learn why this viral accessory is a must-have for your setup.

Power bricks 🔌 have long been relegated to the realm of boring, utilitarian grey boxes, but Ugreen’s latest release is trying to change that. 🆕 Capitalizing on the growing “desk pet” trend 🐱, the accessory maker’s new 45W GaN fast charger ⚡ looks more like a collectible vinyl toy than a piece of tech. Shaped like a plump, minimalist cat 🐈—complete with tiny ears and a simple, charming expression—the device is designed to double as a whimsical desk ornament 🌸 when it isn’t juicing up your gear.

The aesthetic is clean and modern ✨, featuring a white body accented by subtle pops of red on the ears and base 🔴. However, the real novelty lies in how the device actually functions. Ugreen has opted for a quirky “split-body” design, which means you essentially have to decapitate the little feline 🙀 to access the charging hardware. The single USB-C port is tucked away on top of the detached head 🔌—which plugs directly into the wall while connected to your cable—leaving the bottom half behind as a standalone desktop figurine 🧸. Wrapped in a soft, tactile liquid silicone ☁️, this is a charger meant to be shown off, not hidden away behind a power strip.

Don’t let the whimsical exterior fool you, though—the hardware underneath is highly capable. 💪 Leveraging Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology ⚡, this tiny charger delivers up to 45W of power through its single USB-C port. With support for multiple power profiles ranging from 5V/3A to 20V/2.25A, it is versatile enough to top off everything from smartphones and tablets 📱 to handheld consoles like the Steam Deck 🎮 and even lightweight ultrabooks 💻.

In terms of footprint, the charger remains highly portable 🚀. Standing just over 63mm tall and weighing in at a modest 115 grams (roughly 4 ounces) ⚖️, it easily slips into a backpack 🎒—even if its bulbous, rounded shape is a bit more eccentric than your standard flat wall adapter. It supports a universal input range of 100-240V for hassle-free travel ✈️, and Ugreen is backing the device with a reassuring 18-month warranty 🛡️.

The pricing is perhaps the most enticing part. 🏷️ Ugreen is retailing the charger via JD.com in China 🇨🇳 for just 89 yuan, which converts to a highly competitive $13 USD 💵. While there is no official word yet on a global release 🌐, Ugreen’s history of international distribution suggests it will likely make its way to Western storefronts eventually. At just thirteen dollars, it’s an absolute steal 🔥 for anyone looking to inject a little personality into their daily cable management 🔌.

Why Next-Gen AI Smartphones May Ditch LPDDR for LLW 🪐

Published

on

By

As tech giants automate, the accelerating wave of AI layoffs is creating an economic powder keg. Discover the true impact of automation on the modern workforce.

Smartphones 📱 are hitting a major memory bottleneck, and it is not something a simple software update can resolve. While modern mobile processors are fully capable of running large language models (LLMs) locally, on-device AI 🧠 is pushing hardware to its absolute limits.

The real bottleneck lies in current LPDDR memory technology, which struggles to feed data to these processors fast enough to keep up with AI demands. It is this exact challenge 🎯 that forces AI datacenters to rely on ultra-fast High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) .

To bridge this gap, a new memory standard called LLW (Low Latency Wide DRAM) is currently in development 🧬, promising to solve the mobile bottleneck once and for all 🔮.

LLW: The HBM-Style Solution for Smartphones 🚀

LLW takes a page out of the HBM playbook. HBM achieves blistering speeds  by stacking multiple memory layers close to the processor and linking them through an incredibly wide interface. This architecture delivers massive bandwidth, potentially performing 10 to 15 times faster 💥 than today’s top-tier LPDDR memory.

However, traditional HBM requires complex packaging and heavy-duty cooling 🧊 that simply won’t fit inside a smartphone. LLW aims to deliver the best of both worlds: offering the high bandwidth and low latency of stacked memory without the thermal and physical space constraints that usually come with it 💎.

Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro: Early Adopters? 👀

Of course, these early rumors should be taken with a grain of salt 🧂. The current details stem from industry bloggers and tech tipsters rather than official manufacturer roadmaps.

According to a leak from tipster Fixed Focus Digital, LLW memory could slash power consumption by up to 50% 🔋 while simultaneously boosting overall performance by 1.5 times.

We will have to wait a while  to see this technology in action. The leak indicates that widespread adoption of LLW is still a few years away, with large-scale deployment not expected until the second half of 2027. When it does arrive, Xiaomi and Huawei are rumored to be among the first to adopt it, though neither brand has officially confirmed these plans 🏆.
