Revisiting OhSnap’s MCON: The magnetic game controller for your phone 🧲🎮📱
OhSnap captured our attention—and a “Best of CES” award 🏆—last year with the MCON, a compact Bluetooth gamepad that snaps magnetically to your phone 🧲. At the time, we tested a pre-production unit, but the finalized version officially went on sale last month 🛒. After getting hands-on with the retail model here at CES 🏢, I’m convinced the team has made significant refinements over the past year ✨.
Just as we saw last year, the MCON connects magnetically to iPhones 🍎 or any compatible Android device 🤖 (OhSnap includes a magnetic ring for Androids that lack Qi2 support). It features a full control layout: four face buttons, a D-pad, dual joysticks 🕹️, plus index buttons and full bumpers. The device feels significantly sleeker and more solid than the previous prototype 🦾. While mounting the phone does make the setup feel slightly top-heavy, it wasn’t awkward enough to impact gameplay 🎮 during my brief demo.
The controller also features unfolding grips to improve balance, and the mounting plate doubles as a kickstand 📐. This means you can easily prop your phone on an airplane tray table ✈️ and play comfortably with the controller in hand. All told, the MCON feels like a flexible, high-quality accessory that justifies its $150 price tag 💰.
OhSnap also introduced several new accessories 🎒. There is a $70 TV dock 📺 that charges your phone ⚡ while outputting video from USB-C to HDMI 🔌, which works with any Bluetooth controller setup, not just the MCON. Additionally, they showcased a tiny $30 keychain adapter 🔑. You can plug its USB-C end into your phone and connect an HDMI cable to the other, allowing you to broadcast your games to any TV on the go 📡.
It’s a clever ecosystem of products 🌐. While the market is flooded with mobile game controllers, the MCON stands out as one of the sleekest and most portable options available. However, OhSnap is aiming even smaller 🤏. The company revealed two new prototype controllers: the MCON Lite and MCON Slim.
As their names suggest, these new models are even more compact than the original 📏. The Lite swaps full joysticks for concave joypads, while the Slim utilizes concave touch pads to reduce bulk further. You aren’t going to get quite the same tactile experience as the flagship model, but they are noticeably thinner and expected to be more affordable. The MCON Lite is scheduled to arrive this summer ☀️, while the Slim should launch in the fall 🍂, likely coinciding with the iPhone 18 release 🗓️.

Nintendo Hit With €35 Million Fine Over Switch Joy-Con Drift ⚖️
Nintendo has agreed to pay a €35 million ($40 million) fine 💸 to France’s consumer protection agency, the DGCCRF, putting an end to a long-running legal battle over the original Switch’s notorious “Joy-Con drift” defect 🕹️.
Nintendo Switch 🎮
The French watchdog accused the gaming giant of misleading commercial practices and planned obsolescence 📉. Investigators revealed that Nintendo was aware of the widespread stick drift defect—which causes the analog sticks to register phantom movements without user input—as early as 2018 ⚠️.
Despite this internal knowledge, the company failed to formally notify consumers until 2020 🤫. Because Nintendo stayed quiet about the hardware defect, millions of frustrated players purchased costly replacement controllers out of pocket 💸, unaware that they were eligible for the company’s free repair program 🛠️.
Despite agreeing to the hefty €35 million payout, Nintendo is holding its ground. In a statement to Le Monde, the company denied any intentional wrongdoing, asserting that the fine is not an admission of guilt but rather an amicable resolution to the legal dispute 🤝. However, Nintendo’s latest financial filings tell the real story, recording a matching ¥6.4 billion loss under litigation expenses to cover the settlement 📑.
Joy-Con drift quickly became the defining, most frustrating hardware flaw for the original Switch’s 155 million users 😤. Independent investigations by consumer advocacy groups eventually traced the issue back to a fundamental design flaw: rapid wear and tear on the joystick slider’s delicate plastic circuit boards ⚙️.
Although Nintendo quietly revised subsequent Joy-Con models to mitigate this wear, the company has historically avoided publicly discussing its hardware adjustments 🤐. Fortunately, the gaming giant appears to have taken those painful lessons to heart. With the Switch 2 now on the market for a full year, there have been no widespread reports of the dreaded drift returning to haunt Nintendo’s latest console ✅.

Xiaomi Gaming Mouse 2 to feature PixArt PAW3955XM sensor & 40000 DPI 🌟
Xiaomi is pulling back the curtain 🎭 on its upcoming Gaming Mouse 2 🖱️. Following a brief teaser last week, the tech giant took to Weibo 📱 to reveal the peripheral’s core specifications. The standout revelation is the inclusion of a custom PixArt sensor 🎯, signaling Xiaomi’s ambition to be a serious contender in the PC gaming accessory space 🎮 rather than just offering another basic budget option.
Xiaomi Gaming Mouse 2 ✨
At the heart of the mouse lies a custom PixArt PAW3955XM sensor 👁️. As the go-to manufacturer for the industry’s top gaming mice, PixArt has equipped this specific model with some truly impressive specs, highlighted by a staggering maximum sensitivity of 40,000 DPI 📈. While no gamer actually plays at 40,000 DPI, such a massive ceiling generally guarantees incredibly accurate and consistent tracking 🎯 at the much lower sensitivities standardly used in competitive play 🏆.

#Gaming Mouse 2
Complementing that massive DPI, the sensor boasts a maximum tracking speed of 750 IPS (inches per second) ⚡ alongside up to 60G of acceleration 🚀. In practical terms, this ensures the mouse will flawlessly translate even the most frantic, lightning-fast physical swipes 💨 into in-game action without skipping a beat.
Xiaomi Gaming Mouse 2 🔥
Xiaomi further highlighted a maximum static frame rate exceeding 20,000 FPS 🖼️ and a remarkably tight 1 percent DPI precision rate, complete with 1-to-1 factory calibration 🛠️. According to the manufacturer, this meticulous engineering is designed to entirely eliminate cursor drift and frame drops 📉, whether you’re making pixel-perfect micro-adjustments or sweeping macro movements 📏.
Based on early promotional images, the physical design takes a relatively safe, familiar approach 🎨. The chassis features a symmetrical profile but incorporates two side buttons strictly on the left edge, making it functionally tailored for right-handed gamers 🖐️. Xiaomi isn’t shy about marketing this as a true esports mouse, leaning heavily on its advanced sensor, internal controller, and precise factory tuning to validate its competitive pedigree 🥇.
Naturally, raw specifications only paint half the picture 🖼️. In the world of gaming peripherals, ergonomics, weight, and overall in-hand feel are what ultimately determine a mouse’s success ⚖️. Xiaomi has yet to disclose crucial details like the device’s exact weight, battery life 🔋, wireless polling rate, or pricing 💰. While the brand historically undercuts established gaming titans like Razer and Logitech, we’ll have to wait for the official launch ⏳ to see exactly how the Gaming Mouse 2 stacks up against the competition 🆚.
